Baysbrown Farm Campsite July 2022

Please visit www.baysbrownfarmcampsite.co.uk for updated prices and opening times.

As you can see we are making the most out of our new van. Venturing further a field we decided to visit the Lakes somewhere we have only been once before but not in the van. The site had been recommended to us and it looked really nice. Baysbrown in Langdale it is ideally located if you like walking and exploring. When we arrived our plan was to climb Scafel Pike Saturday morning but about 8pm the night we arrived (Friday) we had a monsoon, it rained all evening and all night, I can tell you that not even the rain spoiled our night. We had managed to have a walk around the village and get back just before the heavens opened. We sat in the awning eating our tea with a glass of wine and just listened to the sound of the rain, we still felt privileged to be able to do what we are doing and we were making the most of it. About 3 am we were woken up as the wind had got up in the night and it felt like the pop top was going to be ripped from the van, we decided to pull the pop top down to prevent any damage, we immediately fell back to sleep in spite of the wind and rain and had a peaceful nights sleep. As a result of the rain we decided against Scafell Pike and climbed to the top of stickle tarn which was still a climb and a half (the middle photo is the stunning view from the top) It was worth the climb and the drink in the pub after we climbed back down was well earned. Another successful trip and all for the price of a few nights stay on a campsite.

The site is quite large with all you need for an off grid camp out. The showers are free and the water is hot. The toilets are cleaned regularly with drinking water available via outdoor taps. A washing up area is also provided, which is a great feature. There is also a waste area so you can keep your van and pitch free of litter. They don't have set pitches so it is down to you to select a level spot. We were unsure whether we would get a pitch based on the site not taking bookings. It's a first come first served basis, but this didn't put us off. We arrived mid Friday afternoon paid at the house and told to pitch were you want.

The first part of the road that leads into the site is not great to be honest. The little bridge you have to go over is just wide enough for a van, anything bigger would struggle to get over. All in all it was a great weekend and we would highly recommend the site.

Shay Gate Farm

Please visit www.pitchup.com for updated prices and opening times.

June 2022 - For our very first overnight stay and first outing in Daisy we visited Shay Gate farm in Colne, Lancashire. The campsite is set on a working farm with great views of the countryside. This would also be the first time we have tried to erect our awning (divorce in a bag is what most people call them).  We found an ideal spot and parked the van as level as we could. It was a very windy day but we managed to put the awning up without a problem and stay married. We cooked our first meal in the van (Ribeye steak, beans and wedges) well if you're going to do this you need to do it in style. The evening ended with us witnessing a fantastic sunset all while having a glass of wine. Now we don't yet have heating in van but it wasn't cold at all through the night, we had a very comfortable nights sleep. All in all, our first night staying in Daisy on this site was a complete success and if I have to admit it, it was a pleasant surprise.

There are porta loos onsite and a place to wash your dishes. The site is very quiet but you do hear the Cows and Sheep which just add to the whole camping experience. The campsite is clean and the owners are very friendly and accommodating. It is a hilly site but that is to be expected from a farm in the countryside.

Boathouse Farm and Powis Castle

July 2022 - We ended up in Wales in July at a campsite called Boathouse Farm, this was a base so we could go to visit Powis castle. This was a lovely campsite right at the side of  the river Ouse with a view of a quarry (not sure which quarry). The weather so far (apart from one night in the lakes) has been kind to us and this weekend was no exception. the weather was lovely and we met another couple who were camped at the side of us in their motorhome, obviously experienced campers. They came over chatting telling us where they had been and that the West is the best. They opened up our eyes to the many possibilities of owning a camper van.
