April 2022 - this was a place we visited before we bought Daisy . We had a lovely day. The weather that day was glorious. A kids Easter Egg hunt was in full swing on the day we visited. The Abbey was great to photograph from near and far. The circular walk round the river to the aqueduct and back was not that challenging but there is a steep section to be aware of. There is a seating area on the opposite side of the river at the top of the hill where the local birds and squirrels can be photographed up close. This is ideal to sit and catch your breath and let your heartrate go back to normal after the steep climb.
When were were walking at the side of the river we noticed quite a few campervans parked up on the river bank and they had brought chairs, tables and picnics, another reminder of what van life had to offer. The possibility of taking food with you, parking up somewhere with a view, whether it be at the side of a river, on a beach or somewhere else anytime you go the chance where you get to enjoy the scenery, eat and have a drink from the comfort of your own rolling hotel room, getting a van started to look appealing.
We had heard that there is a waterfall in the Valley of Desolation but we missed the gate leading to it. When we got back home we searched YouTube and were devastated that we were just metres away from the gate that takes you onto the Moor which leads you to the Waterfall. Well its an excuse to re-visit and park up at the side of the river in our van as we had seen plenty of others do. Watch this space for a revisit.
All in all. This is a lovely place to visit.

Quarry Bank is a definite must see. We were amazed at the cotton mill but missed everything else as we only had a few hours there. As members of the National Trust we will be going back to visit again and to see the other things on offer. We will update this section after we have visited again.
2nd visit to Quarry Bank. On arrival we booked to do the apprentice house tour. The tour lasts around an hour in total. The guide we had was very knowledgeable and she gave us an insight into just how children were treated. You can't imagine how they must have felt. It truly is a place to visit.
